Because nothing says "punk rock" like a $265 dollar band tee.

Everyone knows upscale boutiques do more gouging than UFC 1 fighters, or Aunt Maureen aiming for that last toaster oven during Black Friday, but NYC-based luxury department store Barneys is rising above the competition.

Ask yourself, how much is a plain black Joy Division or Black Flag graphic tee worth to you? Was your answer significantly less than $225 and $265 USD, respectively? Congrats, you’re officially a reasonable person.

Alright, alright, full disclosure: these shirts come from luxury brand R13 and have “decorative elongated zippers”. So, obviously totally worth it then. As the old saying goes, an NYC finance bro desperate to buy cool and his investment capital are soon parted.

Barneys’ patented Ian Curtis grave spinners are the least of their crimes, however. Perhaps finally ready to exploit the notoriously deep pockets of the nation’s legions of trve kvlt Abruptum fans, Barneys are also selling a black metal hoodie with a fake band logo on the front for a mere $1265. No, not $12.65, as you would certainly be forgiven for thinking.

Following in the footsteps of one Dave Grohl, Parisian design collective Vetements (literally ‘clothes’ in French, so you know their ideas are always off the wall) opted to download the standard black metal font, write their name in it, stick it on a black hoodie, and then sell it at an approximate…lemme just check the math here…400000% markup. Enter the inferno…of next-level rip-offs.

Unsurprisingly, all sizes seem to be in stock.

Hopefully, if successful, these Barneys’ items will at least leads to some new catalogue items at Crate + Barrel or Mjölk – when I win the lottery I wanna be able to blow it all on a Dark(tuscan leather)throne or a few Mercyful Plates. [h/t Stereogum, Metal Sucks]
