It still sounds better than the average Crosley record player.

You can always count on Reddit to unearth the musical weirdos of the world. Here, submitted for the approval of r/vinyl, is multimedia artist Michael Ridge playing a 7″ of British birdsong with a seagull skull used as a needle.

You might want to turn your speakers down for the abrasively chirpy “needle drop” but after that we agree with the artist’s assessment that it works “surprisingly well”:

Perusing Ridge’s Vimeo page, it seems he’s conducted similar vinyl experiments with a crab claw, cactus, and ice cream cone. There are varying degrees of sonic clarity, but they still sound better than the average Crosley.

“It’s a living!”
