Nardwuar is back in top form in a brand new interview with Ty Segall.

Late last year, national treasure Nardwuar suffered a stroke. Happily, the Human Serviette has healed up and returned from his time in the hospital to share a brand new interview with garage-rocker Ty Segall.

This chat took place on January 22nd in Vancouver, and was actually three days before Nardwuar’s successful heart surgery. According to a video the Serviette shared, his PFO closure procedure involved piping a catheter through a vein in Nardwuar’s thigh up into his heart, then closing a hole between two of the heart’s chambers. Doot doola doot doo!

With his trademark deep-digging flair, Nardwuar unearths Ty Segall’s high school bands Love This, Epsilons, and a short-lived foray into black metal with the members wearing Hawaiian shirts (so ironic!). Then there’s a prominent appearance from a GG Allin bobblehead, inspired by Segall’s take on the Jabbers.

On the topic of Canadian connections, Nardwuar hands Segall a Neil Young biography, shouts out the Guess Who? and Toronto’s Telephone Explosion Records. I was hoping for a nod to his cover of Hamilton’s Simply Saucer, but even Nardwuar can’t squeeze in everything.

Keep on rockin’ in the free world and watch below:
