'Nard now discharged & resting @ home for next Nardventure!'

Vancouver’s Nardwuar is a music industry legend, a Canadian institution, and a heck of a lot of people’s favourite celebrity interviewer. So, it’s no surprise that the news that he’d suffered a stroke late last year was met with dismay and an outpouring of concern.

On December 5th, the famously well-researched journalist was attending Mint Records’ annual Christmas party in Vancouver when he was rushed to the hospital with a photo from the ambulance’s computer describing a ‘confused male’ in an ‘altered state of consciousness.’ It was later discovered that the Human Serviette born John Ruskin had suffered a stroke. Thankfully, by December 12th he was well enough to be discharged from Vancouver General Hospital’s Stroke Unit.

On his release, Narduwar noted that he was scheduled for ‘outlook surgery’ in February. However, yesterday he shared a Facebook post informing his fans that he was undergoing an operation to close a hole in his heart – likely right as they were reading it.

The PFO (patent foramen ovale) closure procedure is performed to close the flap between the heart’s left and right atria, which usually closes by itself after birth. When this hole is present a blood clot that would otherwise, at worst, be pumped into a lung can now travel into the left side of a person’s heart and to their brain, causing a stroke.

Well, great news – the surgery was a success! Nardwuar was discharged that day and reported on Facebook that he is “resting @ home for [the] next Nardventure!” Doot doola doot doo, buddy.
