The 1980s soft-rock staple and 2015 hit meet again IRL.

Hello, is it a potentially intriguing collaboration you’re looking for? Ceiling choreography enthusiast Lionel Richie claims he and Adele are crafting a duet for your listening pleasure and you can probably thank The Internet™ for kicking things into gear.

The popularity of an Adele/Lionel “Hello” mash-up has sparked a real life team-up between the two salutation singers. Here’s the clip in question for reference:

*elbows you in the ribs while endlessly shouting “DIDJA GET IT?”*

Speaking with the Kardashian tracking outlet E! News, Lionel professed his love for the combo clip.

“Wasn’t that hilarious? Hilarious!” he exclaimed when chatting the entertainment network. “Someone said to me, ‘Lionel, Adele did ‘Hello” and I said, ‘Retirement. I am done’… Then, all of a sudden I realized this is not ‘Hello.’ She just used ‘Hello.'”

Got all that? Lionel says he doesn’t think the song is riding on the coattails of this Lite FM ’80s hit and declares he’s excited they’ve been paired up together in this capacity.

“You have no idea how many people called me on the phone and said, ‘Are you going to let her get away with that? She stole ‘Hello!” Then I said I don’t own ‘Hello.’ I own the melody,” he explained. “But, what it did was it blew everything to the ceiling. The conversation came up. If you say Adele and you say Lionel or Lionel and Adele… that’s the best pairing you could have!”

And apparently there’s going to be some sort of IRL pairing.

“We are going to be doing something together—that’s already almost in the works… I can almost say that we are talking, but right now she has a mission,” shared the former Commodore. “Her mission is [to] get her record out and go on tour, so until she finishes that cycle, that won’t happen just yet. She is committed to that.”

What do you suppose that “almost in the works” project could mean? A single? A guest duet at Glastonbury if Adele takes a headliner slot? 18 months co-producing a musical based on The Single Life? The mind races with possibility.
