The NFL, meanwhile, says she was never "formally" offered the halftime show.

Last week, we told you that Adele had reportedly been offered the upcoming Super Bowl’s halftime show, assuming her stage fright didn’t get the best of her. Well, Adele addressed these rumours over the weekend, confirming that she was asked to play the big game, but that she’s turned it down.

“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” said Adele to an LA crowd. “I mean, come on, that show is not about music.”

I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no. I’m sorry. Maybe next time, for my next album, because I’m going to do a dance album next time. So maybe I’ll do it then.

The NFL, meanwhile, is covering their tracks. Never ones to deny the truth, no, not ever, the No Fun League has issued a statement (with Pepsi, natch), stating that while they’re big fans of her music (sure), they hadn’t formally offered her the show.

Which, whatever. That they haven’t formally offered her the role just means that no contracts had been drawn up. It’s likely that they were in talks with her, but when they got a whiff that she wasn’t interested (and when word got out that she had publicly turned them down), the NFL, tail between its legs, felt the need to get technical.
