Rumor has it Rumor is a good girl.

Yesterday (Feb. 14th), a dog named Rumor took Best In Show at the 141st Westminster dog show, pretty much the top achievement for a dog beyond a “good girl” from their owner. Beyond Westminster being the pinnacle of dog shows everywhere – the canine version of the Grammys, if you will – this is important for two reasons: 1) the dog was a German Shepherd, the most tactical and therefore the coolest breed of dog, and 2) she was named after Adele’s “Rumor Has It.”

Rumor came out of a year-long retirement/maternity leave to take the top spot at this year’s New York City show, where she was a heavy crowd favourite right from the start, as German Shepherds rarely win Westminster’s ultimate prize. The breed as a whole was honoured in 2002 for their work in the wake of 9/11 as search-and-rescuers. “It’s a recognizable dog, people have liked them for a long, long time,” said Westminster Kennel Club President Sean McCarthy. “I think it goes back to Rin Tin Tin.”

Rumor won over nearly 2800 other dogs in competition this year, eventually beating out the other top competitors: a Norwegian elkhound, a Pekingese, a miniature poodle, an Irish setter, a boxer and a Norwich terrier. Insert your own who’s who Grammy equivalents, as long as we all agree Rumor is Adele and Chance the Rapper is the elkhound.
