It's not the first time the Foos have trolled the Church, and probably won't be the last.

At this point, professional bigot association the Westboro Baptist Church are kind of like society’s collective Washington Generals: every time they pop up, you know they’re going to get demolished, you love to root against them, and they’re definitely going to be back to fumble the ball while Sweet J brutally dunks on ’em next time. In this metaphor, the ball is social media and Sweet J is uh…the rest of yus? Eh, I’m still working on it. My point is, it’s always a fun, low-risk proposition to deride the idiots that make up Westboro.

Westboro disciples protested the Foo Fighters’ concert in Kansas City last Friday with their trademark brand of hateful, nonsensical vitriol, clearly not realizing who they were dealing with. Viral Emperor Grohl wasted no time in hitting back, jumping in the back of a pickup truck with his bandmates and some rowdy pals to serenade the gathered protestors with Rick Astley’s 1987 banger “Never Gonna Give You Up”. That’ll show ’em….that uh, they should never give up? Not sure what the intended messaging was. The band also held up signs reading “YOU GOT RICKROLLED (AGAIN)” and “KEEP IT CLEAN”, a reference to their prior taunting of the church in 2011. Anyway, one thing’s for sure: the nutjobs in Westboro, who certainly don’t thrive on negative attention, will never be heard from again again after this merciless Grohl Rickroll troll.
