Moms' night out included some VIP seats.

Any teenage musician will tell you it’s totes embarrassing when your mom shows up to watch you play. Yet at a certain age, when you buzz off your rebellious emo haircut and delete your Diaryland account (these may or may not be personal anecdotes), you should start to realize that it’s actually super cool to have supportive parents. YOU UNGRATEFUL KID.

Even a band as world-dominating and ubiquitous as the Foo Fighters are affected by these issues. At their first of two shows in Toronto this week at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre, stoned throned frontman Dave Grohl brought out his mother Virginia along with her date for the evening: Rush singer Geddy Lee’s mom, Mary Weinrib. The rock matriarch royalty were seated together offstage, as seen in this photo tweeted by Lee through the Rush account:

The Foos have never hidden their love of Rush (nor should they) and when drummer Taylor Hawkins made the no-brainer observation that there were more Rush t-shirts in the audience than their own, Grohl followed it up by welcoming the show’s special guests. It turns out the Foo Fighters’ walk-on music of a snippet from “Tom Sawyer” was a false flag, as Rush are currently on tour for their own 40th anniversary run. Welcoming the rock moms onstage was a super nice move, so now it’s your move, every other band.
