He might as well be walkin' on some buns.

Good ol’ Smash Mouth. If there’s a fair, festival or Shrek-related hootenanny, you can ring them up for a gig without much trouble. It’s just too bad for the band that they’re not always received with open arms or jangly wallet chains.

A gig at the Taste of Fort Collins festival morphed into snarly chaos after Smash Mouth were pelted by bread as they attempted to ramp up for the big encore of their Let’s Active cover. We kid! “All Star” is the encore song, because why wouldn’t it be?

Frontman Steve Harwell didn’t much care for being assaulted with bread (it’s not just a concern for the gluten-intolerant) and launched into a sweary tirade. Using language a bit saltier than your average street festival fare, Harwell challenged the breadchuckers to come onstage so they could THROW DOWN BRO!

“I will beat the f*** out of you,” declared Captain Smash Mouth. “You’re a p**** punk b****, OK?”

The crowd seemed supportive at first, but wound up turning on the San Jose schlock-rockers. Harwell didn’t make things particularly easy by getting fired up enough that security intervened and the remainder of the concert was cancelled. Judging by the video below, the sing-along power of “All Star” is so strong that a lead singer isn’t all that necessary.
