A few weeks ago, we reported that Montage of Heck, the new HBO documentary about Kurt Cobain, would feature a previously unreleased solo track from the late Nirvana singer. And today, the song has finally been made public. Discovered by Montage director Brett Morgen in 2013, the track was left behind in a storage facility—which, we can only presume, the director was given access to while creating the film.

The track below is sparse and haunting, and it’s only a snippet of the 12-minute version that’s slated to appear on the film. We still haven’t confirmed if it’s an outtake from his legendary solo sessions—which Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson called Cobain’s White Album‚ and included the well-circulated “Do Re Mi”—but it’s certainly plausible.
