Did the Foo Fighters play "Sweet City Woman"? "Taking Care of Business"? Len's "Steal My Sunshine." Nope. It's even better.

Regardless of what you thought of Sonic Highways—to our ears, it wasn’t the strongest Foo Fighters album—there’s no denying it: Dave Grohl is after the entire world’s cold, dead heart. Rock’s most beloved do-gooder, after all, once tipped $1,000 on a single drink. He’s played concerts that were crowd-funded by Foos diehards. Heck, he even joined a Foo Fighters tribute band onstage. Try as you might, but it’s impossible to hate Dave Grohl—especially when he pays tribute to Canadian-music classics.

At a recent concert in Brazil, Grohl peppered the crowd with covers, including KISS’s “Detroit Rock City” and David Bowie and Queen’s “Under Pressure.” But the real treat? When he dipped into Cancon. So, did he cover the “Log Driver’s Waltz”? Len’s “Steal My Sunshine”? The Stampeders’ “Sweet City Woman”?

Not even. Instead, he dipped into proggier territories, covering Rush’s “Tom Sawyer.” And Geddy Lee and co. would be plenty proud.

Like what you see? Of course you do. Check the rest of the Foo Fighters’ Rio de Janeiro concert below.
