After an endless stream of controversy it seems like Corus Radio has had enough, with the Toronto Star reporting today that The Dean Blundell show has been suspended indefinitely.

The news comes just days after host Dean Blundell and show producer Derek Welsman came under fire for openly mocking the results of a sexual assault trial the latter had served as head juror on. The two shock jocks (barf) mocked the two victims of the assault—gay men—with jibes about “butt love” and “man-whores” before implying that the assaulter was excited for the jail’s showers.

While a judge rejected calls for an inquiry on the on-air incidents, the damage has nonetheless been done for Blundell. Yesterday, Corus issued an apology of sorts on the show’s official web page, a statement it has since replaced this morning with the following:

Effective immediately, we are suspending The Dean Blundell Show.  This will allow us to review our internal practices to ensure that our programming is compliant with our station’s policies, as well as community and broadcast standards.

Earlier this week, Blundell attempted to make good and apologize, staying he and Welsman “both made rude, homophobic and inappropriate remarks, which were offensive and unacceptable.”

“We offended a lot of listeners, our families and our friends,” said Blundell. “Those conversations were not entertaining. They were plain and simply wrong. For this, I sincerely apologize.”

But the apology doesn’t seem to have cut it. Over the past few years, the Edge 102.1 morning show has been in trouble for its constant belligerence, and whether by mocking suicide, patronizing its audience or openly ridiculing homosexuals, it’s clear that ceasing its existence was the only way of shutting these guys up.
