Todd Shapiro’s radio career seemed to start off like high school. An intern on Dean Blundell’s popular morning show, the only way he could seem to fall in with the cool crowd was to allow himself to be bullied by them. Before long, he was one of them—associated with a radio show known as much for its wide reach as its juvenile, often bigoted sense of humour.

He left the show last year, pretty impeccable timing given the controversy that ultimately led to Dean Blundell’s firing, and in the time since he’s worked overtime to prove he’s anything but an asshole. In that capacity, his new radio show seems to be working well.

“The underlying message of this new show is that it is always positive, it is always inspirational, and it is always promotional,” Shapiro told Women’s Post. He says he’s trying to create a “campfire environment” with the show, which he says is geared towards helping people personally and professionally.

On the Edge, Toddy Tickles says he was doing an immature, dumbed-down exaggeration of himself.

“I was definitely more juvenile because of the role I was encouraged to do,” said Shapiro, who calls his new show his way to pay his success forward. “Everyone has the ability to change. There’s too much negativity in this world and if we don’t take it upon ourselves to have that pay-it-forward approach or to be positive to other people then, pardon my language, we are fucked.”

The Todd Shapiro Show airs weekdays from 4 to 6 P.M. on SiriusXM’s channel 168 Canada Laughs.
