Toronto’s biggest alternative radio station is hoping the return of Alan Cross will help with their Spirit of Radio re-boot: word today is that the legendary voice of Canadian rock radio is headed back to the dial that helped make him a household name.

The details on his return are sparse—they won’t be revealed until this fall—but Corus announced in a press release today that the popular Ongoing History of New Music host will be back soon.

“Alan Cross is synonymous with alternative music – he’s credible, authentic and true to the Edge brand,” said Corus radio’s Dave Farough. “Having Alan back represents the next phase of the station’s evolution – returning to its music-based roots with intelligent conversation”

In 2011, when he was let go due to restructuring, Cross told the Grid (R.I.P.) that the future of radio was on the computer. He’s reneged on that thought slightly over the past year or two, which might explain his newer role with Edge competitor Indie 88.

“A lot of people will say the Edge is my natural home, so let’s pick up where we left off, shall we?” Cross said in a statement.

Cross started at then-CFNY in October 1986 and spent 15 years there in a variety of roles. What would you like to see him doing on the “new” Edge this time around?
