WHERE DOES THE TIME GO? We were introduced to Smash Mouth’s signature sound exactly sixteen years ago today, by way of a little ditty called “Walkin’ On The Sun.” And funnily enough, in 2013, the song is almost as annoying as a sixteen year old human.

Think about it. In 1997, “Walkin’ On The Sun” was just a baby. No one hates babies. They have so much potential, and as long as they’re not shitting on you or scream-crying for hours on end, you embrace them with open arms. In 1997, Smash Mouth was COOL. I mean, “Walkin’ On The Sun” was a Big Shiny Tune, after all.

I’m no anthropologist, but by the time a human turns sixteen, you pretty much know whether or not they’re going to be cool or not, right? It’s 2013, “Walkin’ On The Sun” is sixteen years old, and we can say with definitive emphasis, no, Smash Mouth’s “Walkin’ On The Sun” will never be cool again. But we’ll always remember when it was a little, squealing, promising baby with apple sauce all over its face. And based on that, we’ll always have a soft spot for the little guy.

Happy sweet sixteen, Smash Mouth’s “Walkin’ On The Sun”!
