Bobby Womack just can’t get a break. After beating pneumonia and cancer last year, the soul singer’s now apparently been diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s, with doctors reportedly telling him that it’s not bad yet, “but it’s going to get worse.”

“How can I not remember songs that I wrote? That’s frustrating,” said Womack to the BBC.

He added that he’s having trouble with names, adding that he was embarrassed for forgetting Damon Albarn’s last name when announcing last year’s excellent The Bravest Man in the Universe.

It’s still early in the diagnosis, and it’s not full blown yet, but for one of the stronger songwriters of his kind, the thought of his words slipping has to be a terrifying prospect. Here’s hoping for the best.
