Sub Pop co-founder Bruce Pavitt has just released an e-book, Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989, for iPad (and computer) that documents eight days—from November 27 through December 4, 1989—in a pre-fame Nirvana’s seminal tour through Europe.

Pavitt and Jon Poneman (other Sub Pop founder) met the band in Rome for the last stretch of the Bleach promo tour, at which time a tour-weary Kurt Cobain was described as “frustrated and downcast” by Pavitt. This “photo journal and grunge-rock microhistory” joins Nirvana through Pavitt’s personal, unseen photographs, on that important leg.

Maybe the coolest part of Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989—and what makes it a worthwhile purchase for more than just Nirvana obsessives and completeists—is that a portion of the proceeds will go to Seattle’s Vera Project, an all-ages, volunteer-driven music and arts venue.

You can grab the ebook for $9.99 here.
