Paul Epworth’s name isn’t one you’ll immediately realize, but you might remember he won a fair bit of acclaim at the Grammy Awards earlier this year for his work with Adele. Their most successful pairing, “Rolling in the Deep,” helped net Epworth a Grammy for Producer of the Year, but did you know the song–at least in terms of the instrumentation–was at least partly inspired by two unlikely artists?

Talking to UAudio earlier this month, Epworth says he wanted the track to feel a little bit like “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes. “But for the bridges,” he says, “we were trying to make the piano sound like “Brooklyn Zoo” by Ol’ Dirty Bastard. So yes, the break-up anthem of the year was at least partly inspired by a song which features a line that goes, “I drop science like girls be droppin’ babies”.

The more you know, as they say. [via Wu Disciples]
