According to Billboard, the first single from Justin Bieber’s new album Believe is having a crazy first, with preliminary sales putting him on track to break first-week sales records. Will it be enough to make Billboard history?
According to Billboard, the first single from Justin Bieber’s new album Believe is having a crazy first, with preliminary sales putting him on track to break first-week sales records.
Industry sources are suggesting that Justin will break 400,000 sales in his first week. The only song to do that in 2012 so far is Katy Perry’s “Part of Me” with 411,000. A figure of over 400,000 would more than double Bieber’s best first-week performance — “Never Say Never” fetched the then-pubescent popstar 199,000 sales a year ago.
Justin Bieber could also see a strong debut on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts, which blend sales, radio, and streaming data. Justin’s highest debut on the Hot 100 was at #5 with “Baby” in 2010. With the way radio has been cramming that song down our throats all week, it could be Bieber’s ticket to the top.
The boy himself seems pleased as punch with the performance of his new single. The Prince of Swag points out that it’s already #1 on iTunes in 32 countries:
Always humble, the popstar is the first to point out that the iTunes charts aren’t everything.
As gross as Operation Bieber Blast sounds, we’ll find out on Monday whether or not it was enough to get this young man in the Billboard record books.
