October 27, 312 A.D. – Constantine tosses and turns in bed as he anticipates the forthcoming Battle of the Milvian Bridge, when suddenly he is awakened with a heavenly vision…

God: Constantine…

Constantine: God? Is that you?

God: Yes, my son.

Constantine: Heavenly Father, why does thy honor me with your presence?

God: My son, delineate the heavenly sign on the shields of your soldiers and your battles tomorrow shall end in victory, for I shall protect you.

Constantine: Thank you Lord. You are great. This is truly the greatest October 27 in history.

God: Yeah, totally. A little over sixteen-hundred years from now I’m gonna create this awesome rock star, but for now this one is tops.

Fast-forward to 1967 and baby Scott Weiland enters the world.

Scott Weiland is everything a music fan wants in a rock star. He’s fronted multi-platinum selling, award winning bands while, at the same time, dealt with drug addictions and troubles with the law. He’s a diva but for some reason he also looks huggable.

To celebrate his 43rd birthday we present…

The Top 10 Career-spanning Scott Weiland Songs

#10 Interstate Love Song

Sophomore albums make or break bands. In 1994 Purple topped the Billboard 200 and Australian Albums Charts and cracked the top ten in the UK. The disk featured four top ten singles in Big Empty, Vasoline, Unglued and Interstate Love Song. The latter also reached number two on the Modern Rock Charts and the twenty-second spot on Top 40 radio.

#9 Missing Cleveland

Remember the first time you heard 12 Bar Blues? Yeah, most people don’t. It’s one thing to put out a solo album when your band is one of the biggest on the planet but to go back to that well ten years later takes some gonads. Missing Cleveland is probably the best song Weiland has done on his own. Plus the video features a flying gorilla so there was no way it could be left off the list.

#8 Angry Chair

The amount of useless concert videos on Youtube is only surpassed by the amount of useless concert photos on Facebook. But every once in a while a gem seeps through the cracks, like this clip of Weiland joining Alice In Chains 2.0 to cover Angry Chair. This internet thing is going to be huge.

#7 Revolution

Scott Weiland and company covered this song to raise money for the victims of September 11.  They first performed it on the TNT special “Come Together: A Night For John Lennon’s Words and Music, Dedicated to New York City and Its People.”

#6 Time After Time

How many times have you been on acid and seen Cindy Lauper perform Time After Time with Pat Monahah? And a dragon. Imagine what it feels like finding the performance a few days later on Youtube. But this time, Elliot is replaced with Scott Weiland. What does that mean?!?!

#5 Break on Through

Rock and Roll needs more of these types of shows: classic rock bands collaborating with new rock artists. Bad ass.

#4 Last Fight

This is it. This is the one good song Velvet Revolver came up with. This song is so good it actually justifies every other pieces of crap they put together. Actually, that’s not possible, but it’s a great freakin’ song.

#3 Creep

Timeless.

#2 Have Yourself A Merry Christmas

This November Weiland will release his Christmas album, Most Wonderful Time of the Year. While the official track listing hasn’t been set he has confirmed that there will be a reggae version of Little Drummer Boy, so obviously you’re gonna want to pick it up.

Last year he released Have Yourself A Merry Christmas on iTunes. It doesn’t matter if you’re an atheist, Jew or Muslim; when you hear this song there’s little doubt that Santa is real.

#1 Plush

Plush topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart in 1993, won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1994 and helped Core reach sales of over eight million. The video for the song earned STP the Best New Artist award from MTV.  Maybe the biggest news: it’s featured in Rock Band 3… which just hit stores yesterday. Happy birthday indeed.
