This morning in new music; The Strokes working in studio without Casablancas, Dave Grohl brings on Nirvana producer for new Foo Fighter's album and Teenage Fanclub plan first album since Man-Made.

The Strokes are currently in the studio at work on their new album without the aid of their lead singer and prominent songwriter. Julian Casablancas is touring his side solo project at the moment and apparently is intentionally staying clear of the studio so the other members can work on the record. Speaking about his temporary removal from the band, Casablancas told ABC News, “I’m pretty opinionated. Nothing pushy to the point of it’s my way or no way, but I’ll hear a song and be like, ‘Hmmm, it feels like the bass should be like something different’. Whereas if I feel like I wasn’t in the room then they could just kind of spread their wings.” No official release date has been announced for the new disc, but the band has several big festival shows lined up this summer including Isle of Wight and Rock Ness. Drummer Dave Grohl will reunite with producer Butch Vig for the first time since working together on Nirvana’s Nevermind for the new Foo Fighter’s album. This will be the first album from the band since 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace. “There’s something that Butch does that helps a song become a bigger song,” Grohl said in an interview with BBC.  “At this point I just want to rock. We’ve done a lot of acoustic stuff, the last couple of records have had a lot of pianos and mandolins. This one, I just want it to be on ten. [BBC]

And Teenage Fanclub will return this summer with a new album following Man-Made, released five years ago. Entitled Shadows and set to come out on June 8, the album features 12 songs. The band will tour the UK and Ireland in the next few months and have plans to travel to North America in September, but no dates have been announced yet. [Pitchfork]
