Joseph Fiennes is playing Michael Jackson in an upcoming made-for-TV movie. This is what he'll look like.
As previously reported, Urban Myths is an upcoming Sky Arts TV show that focuses on probably-apocryphal pop culture legends, and starts airing January 19th. One episode will recount an almost definitely fake road trip supposedly undertaken by Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, and Michael Jackson after 9/11, and now, thanks to the show’s recently-released trailer, we finally have an image of what Joseph Fiennes as MJ will look like.
Warning: the image below may cause confusion, nausea, and general malaise:
Huh…well, that’s one way to depict the King of Pop, i.e, as a militant internet atheist who goes to a lot of steampunk conventions.
Many denizens of social media aren’t exactly enthused about the casting choice, because why would you be excited about Jack White: Brony Edition?
Many are decrying casting the lily-white Fiennes as MJ, but as Fiennes told Entertainment Tonight a year ago, “[Jackson] definitely had an issue – a pigmentation issue – and that’s something I do believe. He was probably closer to my color than his original color.”
The 30-minute episode will also feature Stockard Channing as Elizabeth Taylor and Brian Cox as Marlon Brando.Urban Myths airs January 19th on Sky Arts. Watch the trailer below:
