Uber rules, but it might be time to start thinking about alternatives to the alternative. The Guardian has reported that Uber employees have allegedly been abusing the company’s already-horrifying “God view” tool, which, as it’s name suggests, lets them see the movements of Uber users across a map. It also lets them search for specific users, and zero in on their whereabouts.
The company has confirmed it’s had to terminate employees for misusing the tool, and an ex-investigator for Uber, who’s now launching a lawsuit against the company, has claimed employees use the tool to track, among others, “high-profile politicians, celebrities … ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, and ex-spouses.” The suit specifically alleges that Beyoncé was monitored via this fucking invasive technology.
Given Uber’s recent expansion of location-gathering information in the app, this development doubles the already-existing existential dread. Given the compounded shittiness at hand, you might want to consider going back to good old analog cab companies.
