Slipknot fans help a fake Corey Taylor account raise money "for the homeless."

Turns out, Slipknot fans (aka ‘Maggots’) are a giving bunch, at least when it comes to their favourite band of masked, vomit-chuggin’ clown men. Who knew? At least one social media fraudster must have had an inkling, because his fake Corey Taylor Instagram account managed to raise $1000.

Note to all avid social media followers of celebs out there: when an Instagram account encourages you to donate money through a PayPal to help some kind of nebulous, ill-defined cause, be 100% sure it’s actually legit before emptying out your checking account. And, for the fraudsters: get on finding which celebs haven’t locked down their name on social media, grab a decent photo, and you’re probably good to make rent this month.

Pro tip for any new maggots out there: you can always tell it’s the real Corey Taylor by the Hot Fuzz reference. Just a lil inside info for next time.

The fake Instagram account has since vanished into the ether, but it reportedly had over 51k followers at one point. Assuming each of those maggots gave 1$ to fake Corey, that means…holy shit. That’s like, a million dollars or something! Admittedly my math may be a little off.
