Bono invests in cancer test startup Color Genomics.

Will Bono ever stop trying to make the world a better place? It seems like not a week goes by that the Artist Formerly Known As Paul Hewson doesn’t make some bold new stride in philanthropy or a gallant policy recommendation, such as the greatest, most foolproof battle plan ever proposed.

Now, the U2 singer and world’s foremost sunglasses enthusiast has lent his considerable bankroll to a healthcare startup best known for developing a cancer test kit that detects genes associated with various types of cancer. Bono is among the group of high-powered investors who raised $45 million in a round of funding for California startup Color Genomics, who currently provide their saliva gene test for $249 USD.

Color Genomics CEO Elad Gil says the money will go towards providing cheaper access to its cancer test and furthering communication and database architecture between disease researchers. “We’re in the middle of one of the greatest shifts seen in health,” Gil said. “Increased access to genetic information is enabling doctors and their patients to create personalized plans for better prevention, detection and treatment of hereditary disease.”

What will the money that Achtung Baby wrought go towards next? Fingers crossed for some kind of self-driving hovercar initiative.
