Save animals from the slaughterhouse in this game backed by a chiptune Smiths classic.

Ever the ray of sunshine, Morrissey is getting into the world of web based browser games with PETA’s new pet project — pun intended.

This Beautiful Creature Must Die is a lightweight, lighthearted little game inspired by the Smiths’ Meat Is Murder, and its mechanics are as deftly simple as most of Morrissey’s rhetoric. To play, simply click on an animal to save it from the slaughterhouse assembly line. Dodge the bombs, which are in no way something P.E.T.A endorses, no way, not ever, to stay alive.

Not exactly masters of subtlety, that PETA, but at least they’ve managed to make a statement here without their usual heavy dose of sexual exploitation. No nude celebrities, lettuce bikinis or public bubble baths here, people!

The game, which is a crude approximation of an old Game Boy game, is soundtracked by the eponymous “Meat is Murder,” rendered, of course, in simplistic chiptune.

Never one to exaggerate, Morrissey said in a press release that this game is “the biggest social crusade of all,” as it “safeguard[s] the weak and helpless from violent human aggression.”

“You don’t get that from ‘Pokémon Go,’” he added, obviously “hip” to the “kids.”
