The Ghostbusters reboot will feature an updated theme from Pete Wentz and Missy Elliott.

The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot is hitting theatres later this summer, and in case you’ve mercifully been unaware of the furor surrounding the film, let me bust your ectoplasmic bubble: a vocal contingent of detractors (including actor Ernie “Winston” Hudson) are mad that the movie has an all-female starring cast.

Never fear, though, because Sony’s best and brightest are on the case. SONY EXECUTIVE: “You know how people are up in arms about the new Ghostbusters just because it stars women instead of a 63-year-old Dan Aykroyd? This new, updated version of the beloved theme song from Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott ought to win ’em over.”

Main Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz, no stranger to movie soundtracks, let slip on his Twitter that he’d “crossed one off the kid dream bucket list” by teaming up with Missy Eliott to deliver a modernized cover of Ray Parker Jr.’s beyond-iconic ghost-wrecking theme song.

Finally, Wentz gets to straight-up cover a hooky jam instead of just stealing them. Missy Elliott covering the song sounds interesting, at least, but I’m betting right now her contribution will be limited to one 15-second verse and then she’ll vanish like a spectre, never to heard from again amidst the graveyard of Patrick Stump “woh-hohs.” Spoooooky!

RCA Records also announced that artists like Jeremih, Walk the Moon, and a capella zealots Pentatonix would be appearing on the movie soundtrack. Because if there’s a perfect soundtrack to bustin’ ghosts and demons, it’s annoying a capella pop from a group of fresh-faced Texans.

As for the theme song, Sony should’ve just got Neil Cicierega.
