Bono's neighbour Enya is still the richest female UK solo artist of all time.

Quick question: who is the wealthiest woman in music in the UK and Ireland, with a net worth of £91 million? If you guessed one Ms. Adele Adkins, get the ‘dele out of here: it’s Enya of course, who has remained consistently successful ever since first striking it big with her hit single “Orinoco Flow” in 1988, even though she’s never toured behind her solo work and rarely appears in public.

The Irish songstress is her country’s best-selling solo artist, purely on the strength of her trademark ethereal, Celtic New Age music. Valuable lesson: you can become a major musical success without even an HBO-produced visual album. “What?! How will people feel the correct emotions when listening to my songs?”

Nearly three decades of musical accomplishment leads to some boss moves: In 1997, Enya purchased a castle in South Dublin for 2.5 mil, which she currently resides in alone with her cats, with Bono for a next-door neighbour.

Ian Coxon, editor of The Sunday Times’ Rich List, on Enya:

“She’s consistent with her wealth… we’re looking at wealth going over a number of years. Enya hasn’t moved a great deal, she’s only up a million this year but she’s a well-established artist and over her career has sold millions of records. Once you’ve got the wealth you staying the list, it doesn’t disappear.”

With four Grammys and an estimated 75 million records sold worldwide, the Enya fame train shows no signs of slowing. Forget Beyoncé, let’s start holding up the artist fka Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin as a model for feminism.

Barring that, it’s time to take the wise words of Adam Goren to heart, and start pumping iron if we want to woo our reclusive princess.
