Jennifer Lopez's new feminist anthem "Ain't Your Mama" is produced by Dr. Luke

Shades of Blue, American Idol, Vegas residency shows and her myriad business interests notwithstanding, J. Lo’s been out of the spotlight for a minute… and now she’ll be making headlines again, but probably not for the reason she had hoped. You’d think Jennifer Lopez’s people would’ve seen this coming, and stopped the rollout of her new single. but that’s not the world we live in.

Lopez’s latest single, “Ain’t Your Mama”, which just debuted on iTunes today, features a Soca-inspired beat and was written by Lopez megafan Meghan Trainor with lyrics scolding a man-child who expects J. Lo to mother him in their relationship. It also features the production contributions of Kesha’s alleged sexual assaulter Dr. Luke, a man whose overall approval rating is currently hovering somewhere around “Nixon summer ’72” level.

Why Jennifer Lopez and her promotional team decided to push “Ain’t Your Mama” at this specific moment in time is unclear… although, you have to admit, a femin-ish anthem being produced by Dr. Luke right now is going to get the blogosphere talking and clicking like nothing else, so it might actually be a net gain for Lopez. Just typing that made me feel a vast, monolithic sadness about the state of the world, what the Germans call Weltschmerz.
