Miami police announced a Beyonce boycott, so she fired back at a show in their city.

If you’re going to throw shade at the Queen B, you’d better be thinking three moves ahead, or you’re gonna get stung… or at least, severely out-branded, which is just as bad in 2016.

Back in February, Beyoncé’s Super Bowl 50 performance of her song “Formation” was decried by law enforcement officials as promoting an “anti-police” message and “shows how she does not support law enforcement.” Subsequently, the Miami Fraternal Order of Police union announced that it was officially boycotting Beyoncé, urging its members to refuse to work security for any Miami concerts from the superstar.

Well, that’s why they call her Queen,: The Formation tour kicked off in Miami last night, and conspicuously present among the cheaply-made phone cases and $60 tees was a bevy of merchandise emblazoned with the words “Boycott Beyoncé.” As any schoolyard bullying victim knows, the most powerful weapon in the face of adversity is self-deprecation and ironic referencing.

“Pack it up, boys, our brand has been bested” – Miami FOP President Javier Ortiz upon seeing the merch, presumably.

The Beyhive (that’s what the Internet is called now, as I understand it) wasted no time (read: wasted a lot of time) in declaring this a clear win for the artist formerly known as Sasha Fierce. Take note, everyone: the next time someone takes issue with your Super Bowl performance and music videos, just slap their objections on an overpriced T-shirt and your legions of online fans will love you all the more for it. Truly a universal lesson.
