EDITOR’S NOTE (Feb 6, 2017):

This post was written and published in February 2016, and pertains to one of Kesha’s many court cases against Dr. Luke. Her legal battles against both Dr. Luke and Sony are ongoing. For updates, follow along here: http://www.aux.tv/tag/kesha/

With no new music released since 2013, Kesha has won a victory in her ongoing legal battle against producer and label head Dr. Luke, who she sued in 2014 for alleged sexual assault. A New York judge has tossed out Dr. Luke’s lawsuits against Kesha’s mom, Pebe Sebert, and her manager, Jack Rovner.

Since suing Dr. Luke, Kesha has remained under contract to his label Kemosabe Records through Sony. Until now, she has been unable to record or release any new music with anyone else besides her alleged assailant, stalling out her career. Dr. Luke, for his part, filed a lawsuit against Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert, claiming that Sebert was trying to extort him and forced Kesha to break off contact with him and Kemosabe.

Dr. Luke (government name: Lukasz Gottwald) also sued Kesha’s manager, Jack Rovner, alleging that Rovner is jealous of Luke’s talents and success. He said that Rovner sought to gain more money and control over Kesha’s career… kind of like her manager, or something.

Both suits were summarily dismissed by a New York judge, who ruled that New York has no jurisdiction over Sebert and that, shockingly, Rovner was acting within his authority as a manager.

Kesha has another court hearing later this month to determine whether or not the singer can legally release music outside of Dr. Luke’s label, but this victory represents an important step towards finally getting a followup to Warrior… and justice against an alleged longtime abuser.
