Maggots, take note. If you want to catch Corey Taylor fronting Slipknot, you might have to weasel it in sooner rather than later.

The midwestern metal dad that’s written more books than you’d think has revealed in a recent interview that he could be packing his mask in as the band’s lead singer. Speaking with BBC‘s Daniel P. Carter for the Someone Who Isn’t Me podcast, Taylor fielded a question about whether or not he’s tired of touring.

“You know, honestly, if you’d asked me a year ago, I would have said no. But I’m just kind of starting to,” said Taylor. “I’m 44 [years old]; I’m not young anymore. And as willing as my will is, I’m just beat up, man. I mean, I might as well be 60 in Slipknot years, for Christ’s sake.”

We could certainly see how leading international crowds in a hymn of “People = Shit” on a nightly basis might put a few extra rings in the tree. So will our close personal friend CorTay call it a career now that he’s put in his fair share of tours of duty?

“I don’t know if I would retire,” noted Taylor. “I might step away from Slipknot at some point, just because the way the music is, and that sense of energy, I don’t know if I could be able to do that into my 50s. And I would never want the band to feel like I was holding them back, because I just couldn’t physically do it. So that means I wouldn’t completely quit music; I would probably just step away from Slipknot.”

Taylor won’t be hurting for things to do if does decide to hang up his Slipknot gear. He’s got modern rock vets Stone Sour on the go, probably another book and maybe he’ll campaign for Bernie Sanders if he scores the Democratic nomination. He might also cover your shifts at Home Hardware if you ask nice. The world’s full of possibilities.
