'We are just happy to be alive at this point.'

The long nights and longer drives of life on the road can be a recipe for disaster. Toronto metal trio Cauldron learned that lesson the hard way after a serious (but thankfully non-fatal) accident forced them to cancel the remainder of their North American tour with Enforcer, Warbringer, and Exmortus.

While driving from Dallas to New Orleans on Valentine’s Day, the band collided with debris from a previous car accident, causing their vehicle to flip and land upside down. See a photo of the wreck below:

It’s a metal miracle that all three members survived the crash, although guitarist Ian Chains landed in the hospital with broken bones in his neck and back. The NWOTHM band featuring former members of Goat Horn have been forced to sit out the last six shows of their two-month tour. They posted the following statement on Instagram:

Sorry to report but we had an awful (not at fault) accident on the highway in Texas last night and will have to pull out of the remaining 8 tour dates. Ian is recovering in hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, otherwise everyone is going to be ok. We are just happy to be alive at this point. Thanks for your support and to our tour mates Enforcer, Warbringer & Exmortus; we had fun and wish you all the best. Hope to see you all again soon.

As Exclaim! pointed out, Cauldron released their new album with the scarily foreshadowing title In Ruin last month on The End Records. Happily, the band who previously released a song called “Chained Up In Chains” and covered Gowan’s CanCon cheese slice “Moonlight Desires” remain in good spirits. They recently posted a photo of Ian Chains with a pair of broken glasses left on their merch table in Vancouver.

If you’re in the New York area, a benefit show for Ian Chains and Cauldron takes place Monday, February 22nd at Saint Vitus Bar.
