“I don't care what anyone says. It's a long road ahead, but I WILL play drums again.”

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for metalcore band the Ghost Inside. In November, the band’s tour bus collided with a semi-truck, killing both drivers instantly and landing all five members in the hospital.

Their recovery has, to put it lightly, been rough, and given the challenges in U.S. healthcare, expensive. But with more than a little help from their label, their peers and their fans, the band had been making huge strides towards a comeback.

Unfortunately, it won’t be a full recovery — drummer Andrew Tkaczyk has revealed that he woke up from the accident to find his right leg amputated.

“I have remained in positive and good spirits since I woke up from a 10-day coma in November to the sight of my missing leg,” said Tkaczyk. “Not going to let it stop me.”

The drummer shared his inspiring sentiments in an Instagram post. “I don’t care what anyone says. It’s a long road ahead, but I WILL play drums again.”

Tkaczyk has a hard rehabilitation process ahead of him, but with a new lease on life, seems poised to make it work. Because while his leg was amputated at the knee, it’s but a bullet point on the laundry list of injuries he continues to fight through: Fractures in his ribs, hips and spine, and ligament tears in his rotator cuff and labrum.

Will it be tricky? Certainly. But he has the support and determination to make it happen. We can’t wait see him succeed.
