It's like that and that's the way it is.

The Grammys have gotten around to paying proper homage to the Kings of Rock and it’s a milestone moment for the trio and the genre they helped pioneer.

Legendary hip-hop outfit Run-D.M.C. will make history next month as the recipients of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s a prize that’s never been awarded to a rap act before (seriously!) and will be bestowed upon a group that’s had an immeasurable impact in bringing hip-hop culture to the mainstream while putting out awesome records in the process.

They were also great on Reading Rainbow which should probably be noted even if it wasn’t factored into the award bestowing process.

The combo of Joseph “Reverend Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and the late Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell will be honoured alongside a diverse slate of freshly named Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winners. Queen of Salsa Celia Cruz, jazz luminary Herbie Hancock, R&B marvel Ruth Brown, San Francisco psych-rock crusaders Jefferson Airplane, genre-hopping songstress Linda Ronstadt and funk heroes Earth, Wind & Fire round out the 2016 trophy class.
