The Fox comedy stars 50 Cent mentoring an unlikely new member of his entourage.

Gone are the days where you could get a sitcom picked up without a downward trending pop culture figure (or, barring that, a superhero property) on board: A new single-camera sitcom is on its way to Fox, and it features an unexpected star: Curtis Jackson, a.k.a. 50 Cent. Damn! I had bet on ‘Meredith Baxter as the voice of a talking lemur’, which seemed more likely at the time.

My Friend 50 will follow the trials, tribulations, and sight gags of a unhinged twentysomething named Amanda, who attempts to join 50’s entourage, with hilarious, fish-out-of-water results. That’s what Fox is banking on at least; they’re hoping to beat the ratings of last season’s fish-out-of-water reality series, Last Gasp. Remember the shocking finale, when the audience voting was split 50/50 on whether to put Goldie back in the bowl? Can’t wait for season 2! Disclaimer: may have been a dream and not a real show.

The sitcom will be produced by the duo of Straight Out of Compton (and upcoming Uncle Buck TV shows) producer Will Packer and 50 Cent himself, which IMO sounds like a much better situation comedy already. “Did you ever see the original Uncle Buck, Curtis? What did you think?” “Stop asking me that!”

50’s current television project, the Starz drama Power, has been renewed for a third season. If things keep up like this for Jackson, we’re on our way to a 24-hour, all-50 Cent news network.
