The Green Day frontman says there are "great up and coming rock bands headlining festivals AND on social media."

Do you have the time, to listen to him whine…

Green Day quarterback Billie Joe Armstrong wasn’t particularly happy with Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards and he wasn’t shy in voicing his displeasure on Twitter about it. No, he wasn’t crushed that Fifth Harmony lost the “Song of the Summer” Moonman. The punk’s beef was with the absence of rock outfits on the broadcast.

EVERYONE INTO THE TWITTERDOME!

Rock acts have been relatively sparse in recent VMAs. This weekend’s edition featured none unless you’re one of those weirdos that puts those Twenty One Pilots guys under that umbrella. Last year’s only rock-adjacent act was 5 Seconds of Summer, 2013 was a complete dry patch and 2012’s token rock act was… Green Day.

Maybe Billie Joe Armstrong can be comforted by the knowledge that Kanye “The Greatest Living Rock Star On The Planet™” West earned this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and had a big ol’ spotlight placed on him.
