"Miley, what’s good?”

Did you wake up to some exciting Nicki Minaj .gifs and Vines this morning? Of course you did.

Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards were stuffed with all sorts of press magnet-y stuff (be sure to vote Kanye in 2020), including Nicki Minaj putting Miley Cyrus on blast after winning Best Hip Hop Video.

The “Anaconda” talent danced with presenter Rebel Wilson after scoring the prize, using her speech to thank her pastor and call out host Miley over her comments in the New York Times. In case you missed it, Miley said Nicki’s criticism of the VMA nominations was “not very polite” and that she didn’t respect her statement “because of the anger that went with it.”

Nicki, who brought out Taylor Swift during her show-opening performance, responded to Miley in an unapologetic fashion.

“Back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley what’s good?” said the award-clutching hip-hop superstar.

Miley tried to explain away Nicki’s criticism by blaming the New York Times.

“We’re all in this industry. We all do interviews. We all know how they manipulate. Nicki, congratulations,” said Miley in a tone that was probably a 7.8 on the condescending scale.

This dismissal was greeted with the camera cutting back to an irritated Nicki saying “don’t play with me, bitch” as Miley went on to plug the Artist to Watch award.

Naturally, the MTV News Instagram account churned out this image in short order after the exchange. So efficient!

The exchange has been read by some online theorists as a possibly staged bit, but outlets like E! Online say the uncomfortability was totally real.

“Miley was pissed,” said the network’s source. “She stormed backstage cursing and yelling about it as she headed toward her dressing room.”

Speaking of artists that aren’t all that happy with Miley Cyrus, Chance the Rapper slammed the host for her use of the word “mammy” on the telecast and other elements that were pegged as a mix of racism and cultural appropriation.
