The two groups performed Bono a Bono.

When you’re rock megastars quickly closing in on 60 years old, you can’t be expected to make it through every single one of your three-hour sets without a little help. Sure, sure, “play through the pain” and all, but have you ever tried nailing the “New Year’s Day” solo with arthritic fingers and aching joints? It’s not possible, barring a Satanic pact of youth, which I’m not ruling out in the case of Larry Mullen.

It’s no surprise, then, that venerable rock institution U2 is always on the lookout for ways to ease their nightly burden while on tour. Last night in Toronto, they hit on the novel idea of bringing out U2 tribute band Acrobat to help them out during Rattle and Hum standout “Desire.” U2: making dreams come true, all while keeping their ancient husks in the limelight. What’s next, a Bono impersonator? Oh… right.
