The Australian mumble rapper needs to watch her mouth.

Until around 2011, if someone said the words “Iggy Azalea” you’d probably think they were referring to a new Marilyn Manson bandmate, or perhaps a very sick plant. That all changed when we heard Mullumbimby, Australia’s finest rap for the first time, and our lives were changed forever. We knew this incredibly talented woman was a gift to hip-hop, and no doubt destined to be a star. Well, let’s just forget all that.

The Rapper Formerly Known As Amethyst Amelia Kelly announced in a tweet yesterday that she will no longer be appearing at the Pittsburgh Pride Festival, where she was scheduled to headline this weekend. In a lengthier statement attached, Iggy apologized for using ‘words she shouldn’t have’ in the past, and that though she “truly supports the event and LGBTIQA communities” her “participation at this point would only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event.” Pittsburgh’s openly gay city council president, a Unitarian church, and a local chapter of Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network were among those calling for an Iggy boycott.

The news comes hot on the heels that Iggy would be cancelling her entire Great Escape tour, ostensibly due to management problems but far more likely because of low ticket sales. Then there was the small matter of a 20,000 signature strong petition to take away her Billboard Music Award. Iggy’s star just keeps on rising!

Surely this is all a misunderstanding. The true heir to rap’s throne would never use offensive language in her tweets. A casual trawl through Azalea’s Twitter feed reveals nothing am — OH MY GOD:

Yikes. Well, plenty of new career opportunities back in Mullumbimby, probably.
