Joel Zimmermouse, David Goudda, and DJ Avicheese take the stage.

Every year at the Toronto Fringe Festival you can catch talented artists performing in uncharted theatrical territory like Game of Thrones with sex jokes, or a play about masturbation called Jizz Sock. I remember seeing that last one on Masterpiece Theatre. Ewen Bremner just lit up the stage as the sock.

Anyway, as everyone knows, nothing makes for a better Fringe play than peppering your basic insights about the human condition with some pop culture cred, and what more fertile pop cultural forest to clear cut than Canada’s own superstar EDM producer, Deadmau5? Introducing this year’s sure-to-be Fringe hit, Deadmouse: The Musical!

The unofficial, in-no-way-endorsed by Joel Zimmerman production will tell the tale of a rodent who aspires to be a DJ, “but is discriminated against for being a mouse.” There’s that basic insight about the human condition! In the musical, Joel Zimmermouse has to team up with his pal David Goudda to take on the evil DJ Avicheese. Pfft, a musical about a mouse DJ? You might as well write a play about the common house cat, or the common jizz sock! Unfortunately, as the Fringe site notes, Deadmouse: The Musical will not feature any Deadmau5 music. Well, my interest in seeing it just shot up!

Whether you’re a Deadmau5 fanatic or a music lover, you can catch Deadmouse: The Musical July 3 to 11 at the Al Green Theatre in Toronto. See you there, and also at Jizz Sock!
