Deadmau5 sits down with his synths and pays tribute to Stranger Things.

With his penchant for being a grumpy old man and puttering around Toronto with disgraced mayors in meme-themed supercars, it sometimes slips people’s minds that Deadmau5 is a prodigious musical talent. No, seriously.

An easy way to be reminded, however, is to tune in to one of his live broadcasts. While some of them will consist of video game nerdery and raging about “those darn kids,” to be sure, many highlight his fascinating creative process. His latest, livestreamed and now archived on Twitch (below), is going to hit the sweet spot for more than just his fans, though.

With the soundtrack for the excellent Netflix series Stranger Things having just been released, Joel Zimmerman decided to take a stab at remixing the show’s ominous, homage-to-80’s-horror theme music. And to make the gear geeks drool with envy, the ‘Mau5 filmed a wide shot of his video for the duration of the entire process which involved the use of some seriously desirable analogue synths.

The video above touches briefly shows the end result – you can see some highlights of the process here, and for the true fly-on-the-wall experience (which last nearly three hours), peep the uncut version below.
