"Schamone!"

The supercut is a decidedly Internet-era phenomenon.

The term was first coined and defined by technologist Andy Baio in 2008 as “an insane montage… where some obsessive-compulsive superfan collects every phrase/action/cliche from an episode (or entire series) of their favorite show/film/game into a single massive video montage.” Over at supercut.org the equally OCD superfans have collected some popular examples including every “dude” from The Big Lebowski and every overhead shot of hands from Wes Anderson films, though they missed every Tim Allen grunt from Home Improvement.

Now, an evil genius named michaelm2391 on YouTube has compiled a million gasping noises or made-up phrases from the songs of Michael Jackson and separated them from his music. It’s a bit of an endurance test but also a somewhat fascinating listen, comparable to the isolated vocal tracks that can alternately amaze or horrify. In the end, it’s probably closest in spirit to the infamous edits by Neil Cicierega, such as this legitimately hilarious riff on Lenny Kravitz’ “Fly Away.”
