You know how Courtney Love’s mellowed a little over Kurt Cobain’s legacy the last few years? Yeah. Nevermind.

A few weeks ago, a previously unreleased Nirvana song called “Flaccid Bone” made the rounds online, leaked after someone claimed they had hacked Courtney Love to get it.

Here’s the thing — Courtney Love says “Flaccid Bone” is fake, and she ain’t happy about it. She’s so mad, in fact, that she’s trying to track down the culprit so she can sue them. For what, we don’t know, but we’ll imagine she’ll cross that bridge when she comes to it.

“She said this came from the early 90’s recording sessions,” said the leaker of the song’s origins. “Supposedly Kurt hated it, and canned it.”

I mean no disrespect to Kurt, but this is coming out eventually. He hated several of his songs anyway!

Check out the song here:

Why leak a fake song? Ultimately, it’s a publicity stunt, but for what? And why anonymously? Granted, anonymity has granted this person some security while Courtney Love’s legal army assembles, but still.

We’re immediately reminded of the fake Radiohead song “Putting Ketchup in the Fridge” that went around a few years ago, but its story was far less insidious — it was shared by a Toronto baker who discovered what he first thought was an unreleased Radiohead song before eventually, and perhaps inexplicably, realizing it was one of his own songs.
