Yesterday, metalcore fans were dismayed to hear that Danny Worsnop, singer of crabcore pioneers Asking Alexandria, had left the North Yorkshire outfit. The singer, who will continue with his We Are Harlot project, didn’t leave the band on terrible terms—but his departure was met with disappointment, as his guttural screams and sweetly smooth vocals were had become a band trademark.

Here’s Worsnop’s farewell message.

To all of my friends and fans: I would like to let you know that Asking Alexandria and I are moving forward in separate ways. Over the last eight years together we’ve done some amazing things and created something truly special. I now, same as then, want what’s best for the band and at this point in time, that isn’t me. Asking Alexandria will continue to tour throughout the year and will be working on a new album. I will always support and love Asking Alexandria and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them. I am excited for the next chapter of my life with We Are Harlot and will see you all on the road!

Asking Alexandria’s Ben Bruce was quick to post a statement on Facebook, saying that the band would continue onwards with a new singer, and despite Worsnop’s departure, they’d be playing Warped Tour. The band hasn’t yet found a replacement, but their fans may have: A petition has been circulating, nominating Riff Raff to be Asking Alexandria’s next singer. And in less than a day, their change.org page already has 2,000 signatures.

The petition’s heartfelt plea reads:

They are frontmanless and without versace. They need someone who will tiptoe them in a new direction. The neon icon is the obvious choice. No one else is as strong or talented.

Please consider this, Ben Bruce, James Cassells, Cameron Liddell and Sam Bettley.

Not only will you gain a new fanbase but you can change your music style from that god-awful devil music you currently play.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I hope you gentlemen make the right choice.

Jody Highroller has yet to respond, but he seems willing to act on his fans’ behalf—he, after all, offered to take one of ’em to prom. So, could Riff Raff become Asking Alexandria’s next singer? It’s a possibility. He is, after all, playing Warped Tour this year, too.

And then there’s this tweet from June 2013:

Want to make the Neon Icon Asking Alexandria’s next singer? Sign the petition.
