As NOFX fans know, Fat Mike’s prone to erratic behaviour. Indeed, as an enduring punk-rock personality, he’s aged, well, strangely—like, who could forget that time he told the crowd he’d served them his pee? Or when they called for a “white genocide” in Toronto? Or when Fat Mike was detained for calling someone a sissy?

Still, most of the controversies around the NOFX singer involved being a shit disturber. But in a recent show in Sydney, Australia, things got violent—namely, after he kicked a fan in the face. After a showgoer jumped on stage, slung an arm around the singer, and attempted to sing in the mic—pretty standard fare for pop-punk shows—Fat Mike shoved the kid to the ground, then kicked him in the face for good measure.

Check video of the incident below.

It’s easy to see why Fat Mike was angered—most people don’t like having their personal space invaded. Still, the incident is part of the territory; NOFX has been playing pop-punk shows for decades, and climbing onstage at concerts is standard procedure. If anything, it’s a matter stage security should’ve handled. Plus, that kick to the face? Completely unnecessary.

Fat Mike, for his part, was supposedly suffering from back pain all night, and apologized for the misunderstanding on Twitter.

Then, he offered to buy the showgoer a beer.

Kudos to Fat Mike for his apology, but he should take note: It’s best not to beat up the people who pay to see your band.
