Earlier today, AC/DC’s 60-year-old drummer Phil Rudd was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, cannabis, and “attempting to procure murder” after a raid on his home.

While details are sparse, Rudd had apparently tried to procure the murder of two unnamed victims sometime in late September and, if convicted when he heads to trial later this month, could face up to 10 years in the clink.

Rolling Stone points out that Rudd wasn’t in any of the band’s promotional material shared in October, but that the rest of AC/DC were still considering him an active member. Perhaps not so much anymore. According to reports, they learned of Rudd’s arrest as everyone else did.

“We have no further comment,” they said in a statement. “Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year.”

Either because they’ve found a drumming monkey in a hat or because there’s literally anyone else alive who can play AC/DC songs on the kit, we admire their perseverance to carry on in times of stress.

As for the would-be hitman, he tells police that Rudd is a “good fella” with a “big heart” who let him drive Ferraris and fly in helicopters. He played ignorant on the murder allegations, but told the Herald that Rudd was “burning a lot of bridges.”

“The joys of being a rock star, always in the spotlight,” he said. “You’ve got to feel sorry for him – just the expectations everyone has of him. He’s a good fella.”

Do you?
