"Now and you will be saying 'Ah, poor old blind Bono'."

Bono has become an unlikely rock and roll punching bag over the years. Once acclaimed for his activism, stage presence and songwriting prowess, he’s now regularly mocked for his smug self-serving smirks, ruthless brand backing and stupid, colour-tinted glasses.

Thing is, that last one? Not entirely his fault. Because while we’ve for the last decade plus mocked him for wearing sunglasses, like, all the time, it turns out he’s not trying to look cool.

No, it turns out he’s just a blind old man.

At the Graham Norton Show, Bono says he’s incredibly light sensitive due to an ongoing struggle with glaucoma, meaning he has to wear dark glasses pretty much all the time.

Still, do they have to be orange? And what’s Snow’s excuse?

“I have good treatments and I am going to be fine,” he said during a taping of the show. “You’re not going to get this out of your head now and you will be saying ‘Ah, poor old blind Bono’.”

Yes, poor old multimillionaire Bono, who refuses to admit that shoving a free album down your throat might have been a bad idea.

“We wanted to do something fresh but it seems some people don’t believe in Father Christmas,” he said. “All those people who were uninterested in U2 are now mad at U2. As far as we are concerned, it’s an improvement.” [via The Telegraph]
