Ozzy Osbourne is a lot of things: Senile, tactless, and somehow still alive. But Black Sabbath’s second best singer has never struck us as insensitive or in any way bad.

‘Til now.

While he’s surely lost his mind, the after-effects of decades of drug abuse and suffering through life with Sharon, we were flabbergasted to learn that not only was Ozzy in New York on September 11th, 2001, but that he excited by the event.

[George Bush] hadn’t been in office more than five minutes and 9/11 went down. We were in New York when that happened!

“I wasn’t scared, I was excited!” Ozzy told Shortlist. “It was my kind of craziness, y’know.”

His kind of craziness? Like, biting the face off of a bird kind of crazy?

For Ozzy, the attacks didn’t seem to resonate as anything real. He describes that day like something out of Stephen King’s The Stand, comparing New York in the wake of the attacks to a scene in “an old cowboy film” when “that tumbleweed rolls past on the ground.”

“It was so fucking weird,” he continued. Don’t worry, though: He hopes “this Isis lot don’t get going.”

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s in mankind to try to kill each other for one thing or another. And I think sooner or later one of these crazy fuckers is going to get a nuclear weapon or some fucking thing, and fuck a lot of people up. That’s in our nature. I hope it won’t happen, but it looks like it could happen if they get it.

How insightful, dude.

Look for Ozzy and the computer that helps him form syllables on Black Sabbath’s alleged last album, which is currently in the works and should be out sometime next year.

The rest of the interview, which is essentially just Ozzy reminiscing about getting drunk at the White House and daring Nikki Sixx to snort his own piss, can be read in full over at Shortlist.
